55+ Information

55+ with all the goodness of EstroG-100™, Enzogenol®, marine magnesium and vitamin D3. EstroG-100™ is a patented formulation of three herbal extracts that have been used for hundreds of years. It’s been the subject of three clinical trials and is proven to help women with all stages of menopause by balancing the body’s natural response to hormonal changes – supporting normal body temperature, mood, healthy joints, energy levels, and restful sleep.

Perimenopause, the first stage of menopause, usually starts in a woman’s 40s but can start in her 30s or even earlier. Menopause is only measured retrospectively and occurs around 51/52 years after which we go into post-menopause. 55+ can be used at all stages but is highly recommended post-menopause.

  • Natural herbal formulation
  • Clinically tested
  • Safe to use, no side effects
  • Presented in VEGE capsules – suitable for vegetarians and vegans

Many women see noticeable improvements within four weeks, we recommend allowing 12 weeks for best results and continuing daily use for ongoing maintenance.

55+ Ingredients

55+ comprises: EstroG-100™ 257mg, Enzogenal® 50mg, Marine magnesium 125mg (equivalent 40mg magnesium), Vitamin D3 300IU.

Pure EstroG-100™ –  a patented formulation combining the roots of three herbs: Cynanchum wilfordii (Milkweed), Phlomis umbrosa (Jerusalem sage) and Angelica gigas nakai (Angelica).

Cynanchum is a climbing vine, Phlomis are sage-like herbs and Angelica is used as a food, medicine and flavour. These herbs have been used for hundreds of years as culinary herbs in Korea and have a long history of safe use.

Phlomis umbrosa is wild harvested, while Cynanchum wilfordii and Angelica gigas nakai are cultivated.

Enzogenol®

Enzogenol® is a whole plant extract derived from the bark of New Zealand radiata pine trees using a water-only extraction process. It contains more than 80% proanthocyanidins by weight making it a potent antioxidant.  Antioxidants play an important role in reducing oxidative stress and damage associated with the ageing process. In scientific research, Enzogenol® has been shown to support cardiovascular and eye health as well as healthy brain function in relation to memory and cognition.

Marine Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential component of our DNA and plays an important part in our overall health including normal nerve and muscle function, heart rhythm, blood pressure and bone integrity. However, 60-80%  of adults don’t consume the recommended daily intake of magnesium in their diets. In addition, absorption of magnesium from the small intestine decreases and excretion from the kidneys increases as we age. For these reasons, magnesium supplementation is increasingly used. The quality of magnesium depends not only on its source but also its bioavailability – the ability to be absorbed and utilised by the body. 55+ uses a highly absorbable marine magnesium derived naturally from the clean waters off the Irish Coast.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is sunshine in a capsule. In addition to its well-known role in supporting bone health, it supports healthy immune function, mood, sleep, joints and weight. For women, vitamin D levels generally start to decline during the midlife transition.

FAQs

What is EstroG-100™?

EstroG-100™ is a herbal extract blend that balances hormonal swings and supports women in pre-, peri-, and post-menopause.

How was EstroG-100™ discovered?

Dr Jae Kim, a Korean medical doctor, studied these plants for many years. Dr Kim developed screening tests to discover which plant extracts had the best efficacy and least side effects. He screened 71 different extracts with his E-screen assay before finding the most advantageous combination. The EstroG-100™ blend performed best at activating estrogenic activity through estrogen specific alkaline phosphatase (ALP) induction.

Does EstroG-100™ contain estrogen?

No, EstroG-100™ doesn’t contain any estrogen properties or well-known phytoestrogens such as coumestans, isoflavones, genistein, daidzein, biochanin A and formononetin. Unlike all the other herbal ingredients for midlife hormone changes, EstroG-100™ doesn’t bind to estrogen receptors alpha and beta and it doesn’t proliferate MCF-7 cells. In addition, in contrast to other phytoestrogen products, EstroG-100™ was confirmed not to affect FSH/E2, uterus weight, BMI and body weight.

If EstroG-100™ contains no phytoestrogens, then how does it work? What is its mode of action (MOA)?

The currently available scientific evidence suggests the mechanism of action for EstroG-100™ improving menopause symptoms and bone metabolism is due to action on a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). Certain plant compounds in EstroG-100™ act as estrogen agonists and antagonists without influencing the levels of estradiol (E2) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This means it modulates, or balances, the women’s own estrogen metabolism. This is much better than consuming directly estrogenic compounds because it works in harmony with your own body’s metabolic and biochemical pathways.

What is Enzogenol®?

Enzogenol® is a whole plant extract derived from the bark of New Zealand radiata pine trees using a water-only extraction process. See our ingredients tab.

Can I expect better or faster results with a higher dose?

The published clinical studies all used the same dose of EstroG-100™. However, we have anecdotal evidence from many years of usage that showed some women had improved results by taking EstroG-100™ more frequently.

Where was the clinical trial on EstroG-100™ published?

There are two clinical studies on EstroG-100™ – one conducted in Korea and the second one in the USA.

Why was the Korean clinical study over a 12 month period?

This was so that changes in bone mineral density could be measured after one year of taking EstroG-100™. Changes in menopausal symptoms were measured after three months and the trial continued for 12 months to see if there was any benefit for osteoporosis. The bone mineral density was improved by 2.24% compared to 1.14% for the placebo group.

Is there a possibility that the Korean study was affected by Asian dietary habits? Asian women consume more soy than Western women.

There are no studies that support the correlation between Asian consumption of soy and peri and post-menopause relief. If there is a connection we would expect to see less Asian women suffering from menopausal symptoms, but there are a large percentage of Asian women experiencing symptoms. In fact, EstroG-100™ was first successful in Asian markets.

Why is EstroG-100™ called a proprietary herbal ingredient?

EstroG-100™ is patented in the USA, Canada, Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and will soon be in the EU, Brazil, Mexico and other Asian countries. This means it’s proprietary, and you can only get EstroG-100™ from the licensee who is Meno-Me® Ltd in New Zealand.

Who is the target population?

Even though the demographic is women aged between 40 and 70, EstroG-100™ is popular in Korea for women as young as 30 and as old as 80. This is because many women experience the discomfort of declining estrogen levels. Being a key female hormone estrogen is essential to maintain health, wellness and beauty. It plays a crucial role in collagen synthesis, fat distribution, lipid metabolism, control of menstrual cycles, prevention of macular degeneration and maintenance of healthy skin.

Who should not take 55+?

Pregnant or lactating women and those taking anti-thrombotic or anti-coagulant* products should consult their health practitioner before taking EstroG-100™.

*There have been no reported interactions or side-effects when taking anti-thrombotics or anti-coagulants while on MenoMe® 40+, 55+ or the active ingredient EstroG-100™. However, one of the herbs, Angelica, is known to have anti-coagulant and anti-thrombotic effects when taken in higher doses. Therefore in Korea, the Food and Drug Administration requires that there is an advisory statement on health functional foods containing Angelica. This advisory is not required in other countries, including New Zealand and Canada, where it’s registered as a Natural Health Product.

How is it best to take 55+?

Take two capsules daily. AM or PM is up to you. Our biochemist recommends in the morning on an empty stomach but we have plenty of people who take it before bed with good results. It’s important to take 55+ daily for best results.

How long does it take to work?

This varies with individuals (thankfully we are all different!). Based on our clinical study you can expect to feel improvements within six-12 weeks. Many women notice improvement within four weeks, some need the entire recommended 12 weeks. We’ve had testimonials from women experiencing improvement within a week. The fastest case we know of was within two days!

Can I expect my symptoms to completely go away when taking 55+?

Every woman is physiologically different. Some women report symptoms completely stopping, while others report significant improvement. The effects can be subtle for some women with reports of an overall sense of calmness occurring. Also, there can be times, due to hormone fluctuations and lifestyle elements when symptoms go away for some months, then come back for a few weeks before subsiding again. Some people then make the mistake of stopping 55+. However, if you keep taking the capsules your hormones will continue to balance naturally for an overall improved outcome.

How long should I take 55+ for?

It’s advisable to keep taking 55+ indefinitely.

Why do my symptoms fluctuate, even when I am taking 55+?

Everything in nature has rhythms and cycles – peaks and troughs. Some women experience higher peaks and lower troughs than others, and will, therefore, experience symptoms more severely.

55+ helps balance this but oftentimes won’t eliminate them. This is because of the way it works.  55+ doesn’t contain estrogen itself but works to support your own naturally produced hormones. This is the most natural way to manage symptoms and results in superb quality of life scores when measured in clinical trials.

Are there any possible adverse reactions from 55+?

There were no noted adverse reactions during clinical trials. However, there may be temporary itching or rash on the skin for people who are sensitive to taking new materials. 55+ helps purify the bloodstream, and urticaria (skin rash/hives) may rarely occur due to the detoxification process. Should this happen, reduce the dose to one capsule per day, or every second day. If symptoms persist stop taking for a week and then resume.

Is 55+ suitable for women with endometriosis?

55+ doesn’t have estrogenic activity and has not been specifically tested for safety or efficacy for endometriosis. However, during clinical trials, endometriosis was not a requirement for the exclusion of participants. Only patients with cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, breast cancer, and sex hormone-related cancers were excluded.

Is 55+ suitable for women who have an underactive thyroid?

EstroG-100™ (the primary ingredient in 55+) has not been shown to affect thyroid function, but no studies have been conducted to prove safety for women with an underactive thyroid.

However, in clinical trials for menopause, subjects with thyroid disease participated where their medical practitioner judged them suitable.

Is 55+ only for post-menopausal women or can anyone who has hormone imbalance benefit from it?

55+ will be beneficial for women in all stages of peri and post-menopause as it contains the efficacy of EstroG-100™ to balance hormones with the added benefits of Enzogenol®, marine magnesium and vitamin D3 for bone, heart and brain health.

With regard to the EstroG-100™, while we haven’t obtained any relevant clinical data, in the open-label clinical evaluation conducted with 20 women, two cases of improvement in pre-menstrual syndrome and two cases of improvement of menstrual cramps were confirmed.

Can you take 55+ together with other supplements?

Yes. There are no known interactions with 55+.

Can you take 55+ together with other medicines?

If you are taking antithrombotic or anti-coagulant medications consult with your doctor before taking 55+.

Can men take 55+?

There is no harm in men taking 55+, but there is no evidence it will assist them in any way.

How should I store 55+?

Keep in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

What is the shelf life for 55+?

55+ is shelf stable for three years (36 months).

Where can I purchase 55+?

55+ is sold exclusively from our website www.meno-me.co.nz. You can purchase it here.

Clinical Studies

What does it mean to be Clinically Proven?

We often hear medical professionals advising us not to take supplements that don’t have evidence of efficacy (effectiveness). Usually, they describe this in words such as ‘clinically tested’, or ‘having undergone clinical trials’.

This is because medical practitioners main concern is the health, safety and welfare of their patients. They see too many examples of patients taking medicines and supplements that have no tangible benefit or are potentially harmful.
